Loopcloud 6: Artificial or Intelligent?

Loopcloud released version 6* of its Loopcloud sample finder and management software. The software scans all your samples and automatically tags them, helping you find samples, wherever they are on your hard drives.

Through the addition of AI capabilities, Loopcloud claims this update adds improvements that enable users to find sounds even faster. Loopcloud 6 also adds 3 new effects and improved export options.

New features include:

  • New audio filters: narrow down the search now according to tone, length, attack, decay and other factors.
  • Sound matching: find sounds that Loopcloud AI think complement samples in your library.
  • Find similar sounds: find sounds similar to ones you select, which could be helpful for replacing a sample kick.
  • 3 new effects: EQ, Tonebox (Amp Simulator with saturation and distortion) and Compressor.
  • Advanced Export options: Copy and Paste, original and processed, and other advanced options have been added.
❗️ WARNING: Existing users of Loopcloud 5, who do not subscribe, will lose the ability to scan their own samples

Our View

I have been using Loopcloud for years. It has been extremely useful to find and organize my 20,000 or so samples automatically, which are sprinkled across my hard drivers. I have never used the internal effects, but the improved search and export capabilities alone look like a useful update. For the "find similar sounds" function, a similar function in XLN Audio XO will have inspired Loopcloud.

⚠️ Watch out if you are a user of previously free Loopcloud 5. If you upgrade to Version 6, you will lose the ability to scan your own library without paying a subscription, i.e. non-Loopcloud samples will no longer be included.

I loved the software and used it a lot. I can understand why Loopcloud is removing functionality for non-subscribers, even though it is disappointing. Compared to other sample library subscriptions like Splice or Noiiz, Loopcloud looks more expensive per sample.

So this excellent sample management software might be worth the subscription for some. If you are not sure, you can use a 30 day free trial.
