Reason Studios announced the release of Reason 12 in September 2021. The update brings high screen resolution to the DAW, a brand new sampler with real-time time stretch, an updated Combinator, and new sounds.
New Sampler: In the video, this new device looks like Ableton Live Sampler.
New Browser: The browser will be updated for easier and quicker use.
High Resolution: High resolution retina graphics, including zoom, are being introduced.
Reason Studios will release more details and previews of the features over the coming months. We will keep updating this article, so make sure you come back for the latest news.
I have to admit it. I have always had a soft spot for Reason, which I have owned since version Reason 1.0. Back then, it was revolutionary. Reason offered great sounding patchable devices in the computer, when MIDI and expensive external hardware dominated sound creation. Since its release, Reason has changed a lot. It is now a VST device, and no longer just a standalone integrated DAW.
The update brings the software up to date with the hi resolution standard in other DAW, and the new sampler sounds interesting. Existing Reason+ subscribers will automatically get the update for free. Reason Studios has also announced the early release for subscribers. If you are not yet subscriber, Reason is available to try for free* to one month.
The Reason DAW is also available to buy as a perpetual license*. If you buy Reason 11 now, you will receive the update to Reason 12 for free in September.
