Scene Rebalance and Rebuilt ML Engines Lead a Major RX Update
iZotope has released RX 12, a significant update to its audio restoration suite. The release introduces Scene Rebalance for post-production dialogue separation, a new Stems View, rebuilt machine learning modules for breath and bleed removal, and a redesigned interface. Version 12 is positioned as a quality-focused update, with iZotope concentrating on improving the accuracy of its existing ML-based tools alongside the new additions. It follows on from RX 10, covered here in 2022.
Scene Rebalance and Stems View
Scene Rebalance is a new module exclusive to RX 12 Advanced that separates a mixed audio file into its dialogue, music, and effects components. Each element can then be adjusted independently in level or exported as separate stems. The module is available only as an AAX AudioSuite plug-in (a format for offline, non-real-time processing within Avid Pro Tools), making it a post-production tool aimed at film, television, and broadcast workflows where dialogue, music, and effects need to be delivered as separate audio deliverables.
Stems View works alongside Scene Rebalance, Music Rebalance, and Dialogue Isolate to show a visual representation of separated audio components. Once a stem is visible, any RX module can be applied to it directly, enabling precise edits to a single stem without affecting the rest of the mix.

Rebuilt De-bleed and Breath Control
Both the De-bleed module (which removes audio leakage between microphones, such as drum bleed captured on a vocal mic) and Breath Control (which detects and attenuates breath sounds in vocal recordings) have been rebuilt from the ground up with new neural networks. iZotope says the updated models produce more accurate automatic source isolation and fewer artefacts than the RX 11 versions.
Repair Assistant, Dialogue Isolate, and Music Rebalance
Repair Assistant, which scans audio and suggests repair settings automatically, is now in its third generation. The updated engine detects a wider range of issues, including subtle phase problems and intermittent digital artefacts. Dialogue Isolate, which separates spoken dialogue from background noise and music, now runs at twice the speed of the RX 11 version, making it more practical for broadcast and on-set monitoring where turnaround is critical. Music Rebalance Pro uses a new neural network that improves handling of reverb tails and transient preservation during stem separation.

New Interface

RX 12 includes a redesigned interface with a larger spectrogram (the frequency-versus-time display central to RX's editing workflow), a quick module search bar, a resizable history panel, and updated tab structures throughout.
RX 12 is available now in three editions: Elements ($99), Standard ($399), and Advanced ($1,399). Upgrades from RX 11 start from $129 for Standard and $269 for Advanced.
What is the price of iZotope RX 12?
RX 12 Elements costs $99. Standard costs $399. Advanced costs $1,399. Upgrades from RX 11 start at $129 (Standard) and $269 (Advanced). See the full pricing page for all upgrade paths including from older versions.
What plugin formats does RX 12 support?
RX 12 supports VST3, AU, AAX, and their ARA (Audio Random Access, a format for deeper DAW integration) variants. Scene Rebalance and a small number of other modules are AAX AudioSuite only.
Is Scene Rebalance available in all editions?
No. Scene Rebalance is exclusive to RX 12 Advanced and runs as AAX AudioSuite only, compatible with Avid Pro Tools.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. RX 12 plug-ins run in full Trial mode for 10 days after installation, then switch to Demo mode where silence is inserted at regular intervals in the output. Download the trial here.
How does RX 12 compare to Steinberg SpectraLayers?
Both offer spectral editing and audio separation. SpectraLayers Pro 12 ($349.99) has deep spectral layer editing and tight Cubase/Nuendo integration. RX 12 leads on dialogue-focused repair modules and post-production workflows, and its module library is deeper for audio repair specifically.
Can I upgrade from versions older than RX 11?
Cross-version upgrade paths from RX 10 and earlier are available. Check the RX 12 pricing page for all tiers.
Our View
RX has no serious equivalent in audio post-production repair, and version 12 extends that position without overstating the changes. Scene Rebalance is the headline addition and it solves a genuine problem: separating dialogue, music, and effects from a mixed file has historically required either a clean session from production or significant manual labour. Whether the output quality holds up under difficult real-world material requires hands-on time, but the approach is sound and the post-production workflow integration (AAX AudioSuite in Pro Tools) is the right call for the audience who needs it most.
The rebuilds of De-bleed and Breath Control are where music producers will feel the most day-to-day difference. Both modules were workable in RX 11; the question is how much the new ML models reduce artefacts at the processing extremes. The Dialogue Isolate speed improvement (2x over RX 11) is a practical win for broadcast and on-set monitoring. The interface redesign, specifically the module search bar, is the kind of quality-of-life change that only takes one session of hunting through modules to appreciate.
The upgrade from RX 11 Standard to RX 12 Standard at $129 is straightforward. The jump from Standard to Advanced ($399 to $1,399) is steep, but Scene Rebalance is genuinely professional post-production tooling, not something most music producers will need. The two closest alternatives: Steinberg SpectraLayers Pro 12 ($349.99) is a credible rival on spectral editing and is included free with Cubase Pro, but does not match RX's post-production module depth. Acon Digital Acoustica Premium ($199) is the best-value noise reduction tool in the category and worth considering for producers who need restoration without the full RX toolkit. For post engineers and anyone using RX regularly for dialogue repair or music restoration, the Standard upgrade is a clear yes. Hands-on review pending.
