The ultimate guide to educational and student discounts for plugins
There are many brilliant VST plugins available for synths, effects, and utilities. But they don't come cheap, particularly if you are just starting out in music production or beat making as a student. Luckily, many software companies offer discounts on plugins and DAWs of up to 67% for students and teachers, often exceeding the discounts offered in their public sales. Yet the rules can be complicated:
Does the plugin company offer an educational discount for students and teachers?
What is the discount offered?
Which products are included? Are bundles and subscriptions available at a discount?
Who is eligible, students only, or also their parents and teachers?
Which educational establishments qualify for educational discounts?
What is the application process?
What documentation is required to obtain the student discount?
Are there limitations to the license, such as limited features, or the ability to upgrade or resell?
So we re-verified the education programmes of the most popular VST, AU and AAX plugin brands directly against each vendor's official pages in July 2026, to help you find the cheapest way to get your hands on brilliant instruments, effects and DAWs. Two structural shifts since our last update stand out: several brands now run their education pricing on subscriptions rather than perpetual licenses (Native Instruments, Waves, Slate Digital, Splice), and automated verification services such as SheerID, identit-e and Proxy.id have largely replaced emailing scans back and forth.

Overview
Student and educational discounts are offered by the following plugin brands
Sign up to the musicmanta newsletter, and we will send you regular updates on new student (and non-student) deals and discounts. Plus, you will receive a free 130 MB sample pack, exclusive competitions, the latest news and reviews, and much more.
The following brands do not offer individual student or educational discounts
We re-checked every brand on this list in July 2026:
Two brands moved off this list since our last update: Splice now runs a student plan, and Slate Digital introduced education pricing for its Complete Access Bundle. Both are covered below.
Are you missing your favourite plugin brand in the list, which offers discounts to students? Help others by sending us an email with the details, and we will include them in our next update.
Education pricing on Push bundles is also available in the Ableton shop. Authorised education resellers such as Thomann sell EDU boxes too; compare both before buying.
Eligibility
Students: Full-time students aged 18 or over, or part-time students enrolled for 20+ hours per week or in programmes of 12 months or longer. Parents and guardians can buy for students under 18.
Teachers: Full-time or part-time educators teaching at least 20 hours per week.
Limitations
No feature restrictions, and the license keeps working after graduation.
The discount applies to new licenses only, not to upgrades.
Educational licenses can be transferred to another eligible person, who must provide their own documentation.
Antares Auto-Tune perpetual licenses are 50% off for verified students
Products
Antares offers 50% off individual educational versions of its perpetual products, including the Auto-Tune range. Subscriptions, upgrades and crossgrades are explicitly excluded from the academic discount, so Auto-Tune Unlimited plans do not qualify. Current list prices change frequently on the Antares site; the 50% is applied via a one-time promotional code at checkout.
Eligibility
University/college: degree-granting institutions requiring at least one year of full-time study.
Secondary schools: full-time K-12 instruction. Elementary/primary students do not qualify.
Limitations
One product approval per person, and the promotional code is one-time use.
Application Process
Apply with your documentation through the Antares academic verification page. After verification you receive a one-time code for the discount.
Students can buy AAS plugins such as Lounge Lizard at half price, by email request
Products
All AAS products are eligible for around 50% off. AAS no longer documents the programme publicly on its website; terms are confirmed individually when you apply.
Eligibility and Application Process
In our experience the process is refreshingly uncomplicated: email AAS support with proof of student or teacher status, and they will send a discounted invoice payable by PayPal or credit card. Confirm the exact discount and eligible products directly with AAS when you write.
Audified offers education discounts on its software via a manually verified application
Products
All Audified software is covered by the education programme for students, teachers and schools, historically at up to 60% off; the current percentage is confirmed with your personal code.
Eligibility and Application Process
Prepare proof: a scanned student or teacher ID, an email from your educational domain, or a link to a faculty page listing you.
Acustica Audio has raised its student discount from 20% to 30%
Products
Acustica Audio has increased its education discount from 20% to 30% off MSRP. All full single products are eligible, including Nebula and Acqua plugins. Bundles, upgrades and add-on packs are excluded.
Eligibility
Current students and teachers in audio engineering, telecommunication engineering or related music production studies.
Limitations
Cannot be combined with other promotions (Summer Sale, Black Friday, Christmas campaigns).
Each product can be purchased only once per student; personal use only, non-transferable.
The discount code is valid for just 72 hours once issued, and you must resubmit your ID documentation with every new request.
Application Process
Submit a ticket to the Acustica support team with: a valid student or teacher ID showing your name and an expiration date, the list of products you want, and your Aquarius username.
Arturia software such as Analog Lab is covered by its contact-based education programme
Products
Arturia does not run an open student discount storefront, but it does operate an education programme covering its software, including V Collection, Analog Lab and Pigments. Pricing is not published and is quoted individually.
Eligibility
The programme is aimed at educational institutions, instructors and their students. Some partner music schools sell student editions of V Collection directly to their enrolled students, so ask your institution first.
Application Process
Contact Arturia via the education programme page with your institutional details; Arturia responds with an individual offer.
Limitations
Hardware is not included, and pricing remains at Arturia's discretion. If you do not qualify, Arturia runs deep public sales several times a year.
Buy the student/teacher edition from Avid or an authorised reseller such as Sweetwater; your academic status is verified before the license is delivered.
Baby Audio offers students 45% off its plugin range on request
Products
Baby Audio, maker of TAIP*, Smooth Operator* and newer titles like Transit and Atoms, does not publish its student discount on the website. When we asked, support confirmed a 45% discount across their plugins for verified students.
Eligibility and Application Process
Simply email Baby Audio support with proof of educational status (a copy of your student ID or enrolment letter) and you will receive a coupon code. Re-confirm the current percentage in your email, as the programme is informal.
Cableguys ShaperBox: students get a discount on request by email
Products
Cableguys confirms in its FAQ that educational discounts are available on request across its range, including the current ShaperBox 3 bundles. The discount has historically been around 30%; the exact figure is confirmed when you apply.
Eligibility and Application Process
Email Cableguys with proof of your educational status, such as a scanned certificate of enrolment or student ID, to receive your discount.
All FabFilter plugins, including Pro-Q, attract a 50% student discount
Products
FabFilter offers a 50% student and educational discount on all its products, unchanged and still one of the cleanest education programmes in the industry.
Eligibility
Students and music teachers are eligible for the 50% FabFilter discount.
Application Process
Scan your educational proof document (student card or enrolment letter; JPEG, PDF or PNG under 2 MB).
Complete the application form, attach your document, and submit it.
FabFilter will assess your application and, if granted, mark your FabFilter account as Educational.
Log in to that account and prices in the FabFilter shop show the 50% discount.
Limitations
The discount applies for one year; renew by submitting new proof.
No restrictions on the number of plugins, including the Total bundle at half price.
Licenses are Not For Resale (NFR) and cannot be transferred.
The FL Studio Academic license matches the Signature Bundle feature set at a reduced price
Products
The academic version of FL Studio is the Signature Bundle Edition with lifetime free updates. It is sold through authorised education resellers only, not directly by Image Line, and pricing varies by reseller and region (recently around $199 in the US, roughly a third off the Signature list price). US options include JourneyED and Academic Superstore; Thomann carries FL Studio Signature EDU in Europe. Schools can also buy multi-seat site licenses directly from Image Line.
Eligibility
Students and teachers at officially recognized educational institutions. Parents may purchase on behalf of children. Verification happens as part of the reseller purchase, typically with a student or faculty ID or an employment contract.
Limitations
Commercial use is not permitted with educational licenses. If you want to sell or license your music, upgrade to a full license for a $49 fee.
If your student status ends, the same $49 upgrade applies.
iZotope Educational Versions of Ozone, RX and Neutron are sold via Plugin Boutique
Products
iZotope education pricing runs through Plugin Boutique*: look for products with "Educational Version" in the title, covering the current RX, Ozone, Neutron and Music Production Suite ranges at roughly half the regular price. Upgrades and add-on packs are excluded.
Eligibility
University/college students, K-12 students, faculty and staff, and homeschool teachers and students at accredited institutions.
Application Process
Submit proof of education through Plugin Boutique's contact form or to edu@pluginboutique.com: an institutional email address, student ID, tuition statement or similar. Allow around 48 hours for validation, then buy the Educational Version products.
Limitations
No feature limitations. One product approval per person per product per year, and licenses are non-transferable. Note that iZotope runs aggressive public sales, so for some products a regular sale price can match the EDU price; check our deals page before buying.
The NI education programme now centres on 360 subscriptions instead of Reaktor
Products
Native Instruments has completely restructured its education offer. The old Reaktor-only discount is gone; the programme now gives 50% off the NI 360 subscription tiers (verified July 2026):
360 Plus EDU: $125/year (50% off $250), 110+ plugins including iZotope and Brainworx tools
360 Pro EDU: $250/year (50% off $500), 150+ plugins including all new additions
Perpetual Komplete bundles are not part of the education programme.
Eligibility and Application Process
Students, educators and institutions qualify. Verify your EDU status online (handled by identit-E), receive a voucher code by email, apply it at checkout, and install via Native Access.
Limitations
This is an annual subscription, not a perpetual license: if you stop paying, you lose access. Budget accordingly before committing, and compare with buying Komplete in a public sale.
Output Exhale and all main Output engines carry a 30% student discount
Products
Output offers 30% off for students, educators, military and first responders, now covering both perpetual licenses (Analog Strings, Analog Brass and Winds, Exhale, Rev, Rev X-Loops, Signal, Substance, Movement, Portal, Thermal) and subscriptions (Arcade, Output One, Co-Producer, Creator, Output FX).
Eligibility and Application Process
Anyone currently enrolled at a school or university qualifies. Submit your name, email, school name, desired product and a photo or scan of your student ID or enrolment letter via the discount application; Output sends a coupon code or signup link within about 24 business hours.
Limitations
One product at a time; bundles, bundle completions and expansion packs are excluded.
Not applicable to products already on sale.
Subscription discounts require re-verification every 12 months.
Slate Digital introduced education pricing for its Complete Access Bundle subscription
Products
New since our last update: Slate Digital offers education pricing on the Complete Access Bundle subscription, which includes the full Slate plugin library plus bundled SSL and Harrison plugins. Monthly and annual (paid upfront) plans are available at the discounted education rate; current pricing is shown on the education pricing page.
Eligibility
Students, teachers and faculty members at academic institutions that can be verified through Proxy.id.
Application Process
Choose a monthly or annual plan on the education pricing page and create or sign in to your Slate account.
Verify your academic status through Proxy.id by logging into your institution's portal during checkout.
Link or create an iLok ID and activate your licenses. If verification fails, the order is cancelled automatically and you are not charged.
Limitations
This is a subscription: access ends if you stop paying. As with Waves, compare against Slate's frequent public promotions before committing.
Spitfire Audio libraries such as Hans Zimmer Strings are 30% off for students, all year
Products
Big improvement here: the Spitfire Audio education discount of 30% is now available year-round, no longer restricted to September and October. It applies across libraries, but will not stack on top of any product already discounted 30% or more in a promotion.
Eligibility
Full-time students and educators at recognized academic institutions.
Documentation: student or staff ID with your name and a future expiry date (or issued within 30 days); class schedules, institutional letters or paycheck stubs are accepted alternatives.
Actively enrolled students at accredited institutions, in any field of study (recent graduates do not qualify).
Educators actively using audio software for teaching.
Application Process
Buy through the authorised resellers Sweetwater or Thomann; proof of enrolment and a photo ID are verified as part of the purchase.
Limitations
The license never expires and commercial use is fully allowed, but it stays tied to your iLok account: it cannot be sold or transferred, and there are no upgrade paths into the academic bundle.

Splice now offers students its Sounds+ plan at $8.99 per month
Products
Also new since our last update: Splice runs a proper student plan. Sounds+ costs students $8.99/month (over 30% off the regular price), including 100 monthly sample credits, presets, MIDI, the Create tools and AI-assisted search, plus a free Baby Audio TAIP license.
Eligibility
Students and faculty with a verifiable .edu or .ac email address in the USA, UK, Australia, South Korea or Japan.
Application Process
Register with your institutional email address at splice.com/students; the discount code is sent straight to your inbox.
Limitations
Not combinable with other Splice discounts, and being a subscription, your access to credits stops if you cancel (downloaded samples remain yours to use).
Waves plugins like Scheps Omni Channel are 35% off for students, perpetual or subscription
Products
Waves offers 35% off for students and faculty, and after its 2023 licensing U-turn the discount now spans both worlds: perpetual plugin and bundle licenses, and the Waves Creative Access subscriptions (Essential and Ultimate, 6- or 12-month terms).
⚠️ CAUTION: Waves' public sales regularly knock 75% to 90% off inflated list prices. Before using the education discount, compare the current sale price; a regular promotion or Black Friday often beats 35% off list.
Eligibility
Students and faculty currently enrolled at or employed by an educational institution.
Application Process
Scan your student/faculty ID showing active status (or a schedule/HR letter for faculty).
Scan a second official ID (driver's license or passport).
Serum 2, the successor to Serum, is included in the Xfer student discount
Products
Xfer's student discount of around 30% continues into the Serum 2 era. Serum 2 lists at $249 and was a free update for existing Serum owners; Nerve, Cthulhu and LFO Tool remain in the catalogue.
Eligibility and Application Process
Log in to your Xfer account and submit the student discount request form (the page now requires a sign-in), attaching an image of your enrolment letter or student ID. The current discount level is confirmed on approval.

How we verified this guide
Every programme above was checked against the vendor's official education page, help centre or authorised reseller listing in July 2026. Where a brand does not publish its discount publicly (AAS, Audified, Baby Audio, Cableguys, Xfer), we state the last confirmed percentage and flag that the final figure is confirmed during your application. Discount programmes change without notice; if you spot a change before we do, tell us and we will update this guide.
