Absynth Returns to Standard, Year-Based Naming Debuts, and Seven New Instruments Ship in Komplete 26

Native Instruments has released Komplete 26, the first Komplete bundle to use year-based version numbering. The headline addition is Absynth 6, a semi-modular synthesizer returning to the lineup after several product cycles and now included in the Standard tier at $549. Seven new instruments ship across the tiers, Kontakt 8 gains Aftertouch support, and iZotope adds Ozone 12 Elements and VocalSynth 2 to the bundle. Update pricing starts at $149 from Komplete 15 Standard.

What's New in Standard

Komplete 26 Standard ships with Absynth 6, the returning semi-modular synthesizer NI describes as its fan-favorite. The instrument was absent from recent Komplete cycles and returns rebuilt. Alongside it, Standard gains two vintage electric pianos through Electric Keys: Jade and Teak. Electric Neon Essentials adds a production-ready electric guitar instrument targeted at pop and EDM workflows. On the effects side, iZotope contributes four new tools: Ozone 12 Elements for mastering, VocalSynth 2 for vocal production, Trash for distortion and mangling, and FXEQ for adding drive and texture. Brainworx mixing and mastering effects also join the Standard bundle. New Play Series instruments and additional Expansion sound packs round out the Standard additions. Standard ships with over 80 instruments and effects total, plus more than 70 genre-based Expansions.

What's New in Ultimate and Collector's Edition

The higher tiers add instruments not in Standard. LCO Producer Strings brings the sound of the London Contemporary Orchestra to the bundle. Odes is a cinematic ensemble instrument driven by rhythm. Circular transforms chords into evolving soundscapes. Claire is a sampled grand piano. Electric Ruby Deluxe covers hollowbody semi-acoustic electric guitar. The full six-instrument Electric Keys collection is in Ultimate and CE; Standard includes only Jade and Teak. Collector's Edition adds NI's broadest archive, including nearly everything the company has ever released.

Kontakt 8 Aftertouch and Hardware Integration

Kontakt 8 now supports Aftertouch across the platform, enabling expressive per-note control in any library built to use it. The change works with any Aftertouch-capable MIDI controller, not only NI hardware. All new instruments ship with NKS (Native Kontrol Standard) metadata for seamless browsing and parameter mapping on Maschine and Komplete Kontrol hardware. NKS support has also been extended to select third-party controllers.

Update Pricing and Why This Is Called Komplete 26

NI has moved to year-based naming with this release. Komplete 26 is the next version after Komplete 15, the numbering reflecting the 2026 release year. NI states that upgrade compatibility and pricing are unchanged by the naming shift.

Update pricing from Komplete 15: Standard costs $149, Ultimate $299, Collector's Edition $399. Updates from older versions are priced higher. Cross-grade pricing from competing bundles is also available via the NI store. The release ships while Native Instruments is in an active M&A process following preliminary insolvency proceedings filed in January 2026; the company continues to operate normally.

What is Komplete 26?
Komplete 26 is Native Instruments' main plugin bundle, sold in four tiers: Select ($99), Standard ($549), Ultimate ($1,249), and Collector's Edition ($1,949). It includes synthesizers, Kontakt libraries, effects, and the Kontakt 8 sampler platform.

What is new in Komplete 26 compared to Komplete 15?
The headline additions are Absynth 6 returning to Standard, Kontakt 8 with Aftertouch support, seven new instruments across tiers (Electric Keys, Electric Neon Essentials, LCO Producer Strings, Odes, Circular, Claire, Electric Ruby Deluxe), and new iZotope tools including Ozone 12 Elements and VocalSynth 2. The bundle also adopts year-based version numbering.

Does Komplete 26 Standard include Absynth 6?
Yes. Absynth 6 is included in Komplete 26 Standard ($549) and all higher tiers. It is not part of Select.

Is there a free trial of Komplete 26?
No. There is no time-limited trial for the paid Komplete tiers. Komplete Start, a free smaller instrument collection, is available from the NI website.

Is there a student discount for Komplete 26?
Not on the bundle itself. NI offers 50% off Komplete 360 subscriptions for verified students and educators: 360 Plus $125/year and 360 Pro $250/year. One-time bundle purchases do not qualify. See our student discounts guide for all confirmed deals.

What is the update price from Komplete 15?
Standard to Standard costs $149. Standard to Ultimate costs $299. Standard to Collector's Edition costs $399. Updates from Komplete 14 and older are priced higher; check the NI store for your specific path.

What is the status of Native Instruments' insolvency proceedings?
NI filed for preliminary insolvency in January 2026 and entered a formal M&A process. An earlier deal involving Bridgepoint and Bain Capital does not appear to have completed; NI is seeking a new buyer. The company continues to ship products and operate its store during this period.

Our View

Absynth 6 in Standard Shifts the Value Equation, but Insolvency Risk Remains

Putting Absynth 6 into Standard changes the competitive math at $549. The returning semi-modular synth is the kind of instrument that previously sat above the Standard tier and its inclusion here, alongside Ozone 12 Elements, VocalSynth 2, and the Brainworx effects, makes K26 Standard a more complete package than K15 was at launch. The Kontakt 8 Aftertouch update is also more broadly useful than a new instrument addition: it applies platform-wide, including to the third-party Kontakt library ecosystem, and that reach is something no competing bundle can replicate.

The nearest comparable bundle is Arturia V Collection 11 Pro at $699 (price confirmed from the Arturia website at time of writing). K26 Standard undercuts it by $150 and includes Absynth 6, Kontakt 8, and the broader NI instrument catalog. V Collection's argument rests on breadth of vintage analog emulations: Buchla, Oberheim, Elka, and Roland models that NI does not offer, plus Arturia Originals instruments. For producers who specifically want that classic synthesis breadth, V Collection remains the stronger choice. For those already using Kontakt libraries from third-party developers, the platform-level value of K26 is harder to replicate elsewhere. Who should buy: owners of Komplete 13 through 15 who use the bundle actively, producers with substantial third-party Kontakt library investments, and anyone who specifically wants Absynth 6 without buying it standalone ($199). Who should skip: producers who use only a handful of NI instruments and do not need the full suite, and first-time buyers whose workflow is primarily vintage analog synthesis.

The insolvency context matters most at the higher tiers. A $549 Standard purchase carries a different risk profile than a $1,949 Collector's Edition investment when the vendor is in an active sale process with an uncertain outcome. NI continues to operate and ship products, and the underlying software does not require an ongoing connection to function once activated, but support, updates, and license management are subject to whatever ownership structure emerges. We have not reviewed Komplete 26 hands-on; this assessment is based on published specifications, live pricing research, and public information about the release and the company's situation.
